Thoughts about Work

Jason Fried- "Why work doesn't happen at work"

I found this about a year ago and play it for my students. For them, it has to do with the quality of their work environment while in our computer labs. I found myself having to come in at 5am just to get things done...this clip put it in perspective for me. Enjoy!

"Inspiration is for amateurs the rest of us just show up and get to work"- Chuck Close

This to me is performance-based education. We learn through doing. New ideas arise and through diligence and the sometimes painful problem-solving process we grow. As a culture, we want what is easy....but, as life long learners, we should embrace the tough and potentially painful working process because it ultimately leads to true knowledge and change. This is my first video post on my blog under education because it drives me to get up early, work hard, search for creative solutions to problems and become a better artist, musician, curriculum designer, and teacher. I constantly challenge, even dare, my students, to work harder when they are not where they want to be.....stop relying on me for the answers. I can guide, inspire and encourage them but, as an artist, real answers come from doing!
